by request, a picture of breadchair without a Charlie in it. Unfortunately this VDB didn't turn out so well... I'm wondering if it got a bit roughed up in the wash water, or stuck to another paper because it has an odd pattern on it like it has. I'll probably reprint this one as the poor coating + weird abrasion isn't so nice.
thanks for posting. It looks like when I coat on a dry day and the paper doesn't absorb the sensitizer, the surface is washed away in areas.
I do like the chair. how is held together? peanut butter?

I think I just failed to get the right amount of sensitizer on the paper in the first place for the coverage area. Still trying to get that right (I use an eyedropper to put it on the paper).
Chair wasn't held together with anything, just the clever "interlocking" slices at the bottom, like bricks, Everything else is just stacked nicely. One of the arms of the chair fell over eventually during the performance.

Try using a syringe, its much more controllable so you can get an even line across one edge of the print area. You also learn very quickly how much sensitizer is required for a particular images size/paper as they are usually calibrated. I use the eye dropper to mix the chems into a shot glass and then the syringe from there on.

I have a syringe for it but I bought a cute eyedropper bottle recently... syringe makes more sense as it has marks on it. I haven't done many van dyke prints before, this is seriously only my 3rd print/3rd time coating with van dyke solution. It acts really different to the cyanotype stuff... or maybe it's because I'm using a different brush too. Just need a bit more practice. In general it does seem a bit more easy to get a decent looking print than in cyanotype.
