Boy Dreams of Bridge

I did some shooting around Georgetown with the Tele-Rollei. After walking around a bit I found myself at the ruins of the viaduct that used to cross the Potomac, just beside Key Bridge. The ruin is covered in graffiti, and is a popular hang-out spot for young folks. I wanted to get some shots of the still-sunlit side of the bridge as the sun was going down. This kid was sitting with his back to me, and it just presented as a perfect dreamscape with him in sharp focus and the bridge distinct but blurry in the background. I'm really loving the Tele-Rollei, especially with the Rolleinar 0.35.

Interesting picture. There is a story here and we have to make up our own. A thought provoking picture and handled in a very different way. Just for example, my story is he's watching and mesmerized by someone threatening suicide off a bridge.

While I wasn't hoping to inspire THAT particular story, that idea of fantasy and imagination is exactly what I wanted to inspire. The way the picture presents itself, we accept that the boy is "real" - but is the bridge real? Is it nearby or far away? does it exist only in his vision/imagination? What about the bridge is he looking at? Is it the bridge itself, or is it something happening on the bridge? I like that it also questions our perception of the scene by pushing the boundary of what is "real" in the scene and what is "imagined". We assume that the boy is "real", but is the bridge? Is it all of one scene or is this a montage, or is the boy looking at a Monet-esque painting of a bridge? The bridge is indistinct enough that we're not even sure if it is a real bridge, or just an imagined/idealized bridge.
