Evening light on the precariously located mines at Botallack. This viewpoint is even more dodgy with a 150 foot drop. Disorientation when coming from under dark cloth is a consideration which I kept at the front of my mind!
Timed swell coming in from RHS and had to use colour neg film because of dynamic range of scene, even with ND grads.
Keith, if you mean work in the mine, you're correct. The decline starts below the buildings and runs out under the sea. It is said the miners in the upper levels could hear the boulders on the sea floor being rolled about by the waves.
Great composition, great colors. I keep getting lost in this one. It makes you wonder what it was like in it's heyday. So beautiful yet I doubt the miners thought so at the time. Quite a juxtaposition.
I had identified this new viewpoint a while ago and wanted to revisit when conditions were right. Summer sunset might improve it still further as the angle will illuminate the mine walls and headland above the mines more strongly. The downside is the the cliff face bottom LHS faces the same way and might become dominant. No harm in trying though is there?!!
