Boring Cliche Iris

I threw this print out and my wife rescued it. At times I like it and at other times it makes me sleepy and then makes me yawn. Should I keep it or send it to it's demise? You be the judge.

Keep it, definitely. It has something I cannot put my finger on, but it has a draw on me. The background is complex, yet not distracting, providing a kind of 'fairies at the end of the garden' feel to it. FAR better than trash. Your trash colectors probably have a nicle little gallery somewhere...

Get rid of it.....it has the artsy feeling but IMO technically it is a bad negative and a print that does not do justice to your work. Allowing for a bad scan, and supposing you have some detail in the lower 1/3 of the print. What is up with all that grain? This from an 8x10 negative?....ah...just read you did the Kodalith thing. WHy would anybody want to make an 8x10 negative look like a 35 mm underexposed negative is beyond my understanding...

Throw it in the trash Mike...not up to your usual great standard.

I'd suggest sending it to your mother. She'll love it despite its faults.

But, spot the damned thing first.

Keep it, Mike. Mat it, frame it and hang it where your wife can see it. Make sure she knows that you did this because she liked it.
I can see why you feel the way you do about it... it's flowers, but it's not soft at all. Edgy sorta.... you want to get rid of it cause it doesn't match your ideal image of soft, feminine flowers, but you can't help keeping it. It's a great image to convey all that!

The typical camera club flower shot bores me to tears. This one is totally different - has the type of detail that in a portrait would be showing wrinkles/warts & all. Very well done. Not sure about top 1/3rd, does add a sense of mystery but does tend to pull my eyes up & out.

Hi. I found this shot in a random images. The discusiion opened here for me philosophical question what are main decision rules for throwing some photograph. I do it often, as classical citation says "To make better photographs means also to throw out these bad". What is bad is difficult. I think, you could be only judge for this! If photography is a toll for your expression, it has no sense to ask, did I express myself attractive ? or artistic ? It is your decision. I feel it so. But also knows, that sometimes we have to ask someone else for opinion if we are unsure. For me, this print (don't know if I understand it well, nut suppose it is lith print) is very nice. Has strong feeling. I am unsure, but these are not iris, but lily flowers. They are in unusual form presented here. For me, very nice one.

Did you keep it ? It will be three years nearly ....

Regards,
r.
