The backlit (I assume) fog adds a very interesting visual component to the image. The effect of the apparent 'burst' of light is to nicely accentuate the foreground elements.

I'm a big fan of panos, and this is a beautiful shot. How do you hand print this unusually sized negative?

Colin, I still need to make myself a 6x17 neg holder for my De Vere 5108 (10x8) enlarger, it wont be difficult to do using aluminium, or plastic. Meanwhile I made a cardboard insert to take the negatives and this worked perfectly.

Very interesting. If it helps any, I took a regular metal 35mm neg holder, and got a friend with a plasma torch to cut out the outline of my Widelux negs.
Perhaps something similar could work for you with an aluminum holder...again, my compliments.
