During a week of grey days and equally day dawns this morning was quite stunning. It was zero degrees C and I slipped on sheet ice tearing a hole in my expensive waterproof overtrousers but it was well worth it for the incredible colours that illuminated Blea Tarn and the Langdale Pikes. I shot several 4x5s then packed away thinking that the light had gone when the foreground fell was suddenly illuminated in this intense red. I grabbed my Mamiya 7II, loaded it with Velvia 100 and shot a roll of film over a few minutes as the light shifted across the fells in bands of colour. I missed one of the finest sections as I loaded film into the Mamiya but several shots still worked well.
