wow the trees look like you shot on IR. is that partially the orange filter or just the sun?

My God, Bertil. This might be your best ever. What sizes are you selling?Edit: Oops, now I see your next one...

I love this shot. My only problem with it is that the upper 1/3 and lower 1/3 should be cropped do to dead space. there is no rule saying that just because you shoot sq. you have to print sq. The way you handles the tones is outstanding. Very delicate and soft. Anything other than what you did I think would not come off as nice.

michael, thanks for your comment. Yes there is no such rule and I think I'm bad at following rules! But I often do like the sqaure, perhaps I have a square mind due to more than 30 years looking into my old Hasselblad! In this case I did consider cropping according to your suggestions, and it's still a good possibility, but I also like it this way - there is no doubt a lot of empty sky (and some of it should perhaps be cropped), but the small details in the snow in the foreground I'm not sure I will crop -in fact I used a neg with more forground then some other negs. However I think I liked it as it is due to corresponding in some way to my experience of this very landscape. My first exposures were for the other one with longer focal lenght, but the light changed and couldn't resist making this version with my normal lens of this peice of landscape at this very light situation. But I agree the neg has some different possibilites! Best regards! /Bertil

StoneNYC: I don't think the orange filter much contributed to the light in the birch trees, I choose that filter in order to lower the values in the sky and the blue light in the snow in shadow. The light from a low sun reaching the birch trees, heavily covered in snow and frost, was very intensive, perhaps evan more intensive than this version shows! Best regards! /Bertil

Thanks, interesting, I only have red and yellow filters. I've heard others speak of orange but not sure, is it much different than yellow to justify the cost?
