Hey Daniel, this one is great. This series is very good. I forgot to ask, what print developer are you using prior to toning??? Keep these great photo's coming....I think I need to get to scotland.
This is a wonderful image. The bench in the background, an echo of the one in front. The variety of textures adds much to the overall photo, including a 3 dimensional quality that is quite pleasing. I am not experienced enough to understand the process by which you created this, but I do know the result is successful!
Hi John, Barbara Ann and Gay, thanks for your kind comments. John, you'd have a blast in Scotland- lots of material and weather for dramatic images. For the latest series of prints, I used ID-78, which is a phenidone/hyroquinone (PQ) based developer, but added a bit more potassium bromide to make the tones warmer. The printing sequence involved a medium contrast (Ilford MG2.0) base exposure followed by selective burning-in of the stones with a hard contrast filter (Ilford MG5.0) to bring out the textures.
Another really nice one Dan, I do think I like it better with maybe 20% off the top or all of the sky cropped out bringing more attention to the benches and walls. Cropped into a full frame 35mm size rectangle, maybe.. great job either way!
Hi Victor, thanks for your comments. I have toyed with the cropping you suggested, and I think it works both ways. For me, the inclusion of the sky, although entirely blank, provides a contrast to the stout construction of the walls and arch, which belies their permanence.
