"Well seen" I think is the usual phrase here. Nicely executed, as well, taking a common object off the bench, so to speak, and elevating it "into play".
Beautiful! Technically excellent and composition full of poise. From the well captured shadows, the well represented sunlit bench and the wonderful near-far brickwork perspective. Bravissimo! A very elegant and engaging photograph.
Thanks ralph and Francesco!!! I normally go for more contrast in my prints but I think the slightly muted scale works here. The only problem I have is the brick work at the very top of the image is slightly out of focus. It is slight, I believe it is represented by the scan. I only have rear tilt so until I get a new camera I can't reshoot for that reason. With that in mind are your feelings the same? I like this print and am really struggling with this. Thanks again to both for your help and kind words. doc
Bob, what you need is some geared rear axis tilt. This is the best thing for near far focusing and my most utilised LF movement. Unfortunately it is a Wisner patent (or is it still?). Nevertheless, the very, very slight out of focus works very well here and is no bother at all.
Regarding using tilt to get everything in focus, I'm not sure you could, since you're not dealing with a flat plane. You have two choices for a tilted plane of focus - entirely on the bricks, or start on the bricks and go about 1/3 the way up the bench. I'm not sure if either plane would give you enough depth of field to get everything sharp. My guess is from your comment about the top of the image being slightly soft that you focused part way up on the bench when tilting. The bench is the important part of the image, so I think you did the right thing.
Thanks Francesco. The more time I spend with this print the more I like it. I think the slight diffusion feels natural. A Wisner is a bit out of my price range right now... i'm considering "surgery" on my Korona to add front tilt.
Thanks Ken. I did focus part of the way up on the bench, had to. I couldn't tilt any farther. I think you're right, if I had focused on the plane of the ground the bench would have been soft at it's highest point which would have ruined the photograph. DOF and 8x10 sure is a PITA. doc
