Very strong tones with the red filter. I think it either needs more of the bridge leading the eye down the track or less, cropping the foreground so its just the bridge and the sky makes the picture more dramatic with the bridge cutting the diagonal past the sky, looking endless.
@awty Thank you for your comment. It' great to see someone taking the time to write some constructive criticism.
Unfortunately my position was somehow constrained as the area that you see in the foreground is actually fenced and not reachable (it's private land), and I my tripod is planted in the middle of a public footpath that allows hikers to get under the bridge and beyond. You also don't get to see the end of the bridge as immediately to the left of the frame there is a small hill where the bridge disappears into a small wood, which did not add much to the composition so I decided to cut it.
It was also a bit of a struggle to keep the vertical lines straight, as the wide angle lens is slightly pointing up, so in the end I decided to keep the pillars to the right more or less vertical and let the farther ones converge a bit. If I had pointed my camera more "upward" the converging lines would have been too distracting. I hope some day to be able to play with 4x5 where I understand movements allow this kind of flexibility.
Theres always some bloody thing in the way. I think you did really well from the fence line up. The columns look good, you've kept the shadow detail. What lets it down for me is the bottom. If you cant follow the track around you could try dodging it to soften the tones, more in line with the sky, this will help the bridge pop out. If it were me I would just crop it to the bottom of the fence so its landscape instead of portrait......BTW only my thoughts, your picture to do as you please.
