This is a B-52 shot, just a partial frame of a stero pair. If you look closely, you can see the red missile under the wing on the starboard side. There is another to port.
Are yu sure it's a B52? It looks like a B47 but it's so hard to tell from the small photo. I guess this is in response to the recent incident in the US. Makes you think of Dr Strangelove and Colonel Jack D Ripper.
I happened to have my stero camera with me as the plane went over, so that is what I used. As for it being a B47, I wondered about that when I recently came across the picture. I don't remember any 47s being in use at that time, only the 52G. I won't rule it out, but I'm pretty sure that only the 52 carried these missiles.
This is part of a small stero frame, so I was assigning the plane based on what else flew in that time frame. It is kinda hard to see the plane through the grunge and dirt and due to the size.
It's the shape of the tail, the rounded belly and what looks like a cockpit that makes me think it's a 47. It's a very large missle though, is it a drone?
They were not drones. They were launched (used). I have a photo of what I was led to believe was the same plane returning bare of missiles.
It is a large missile and AFAIK, the 47 was not equipped to carry these. We used to launch them for tests at the Cape. This particular missile was eventually cancelled. I'm sorry but I cannot remember the name.
