Ayalon Swirl, 2008

"Ayalon Swirl", 2008 is part of my ongoing project "Tel Aviv at 100". Following Brett Weston and Michael Smith, I'm looking at a city through an 8x10 camera, trying to find out what it is visually and photographically. It also happens to be Tel Aviv's 100th anniversary. More work from this series will be up on my new website shortly, and I'll periodically upload some of it here on Apug. Do let me know what you think. GB.

Or the river, for that matter. The water you see is what's left of the Ayalon River, on whose riverbed the train tracks were laid, and subsequently the highway. So yes, it does tell quite a story when you think about it. In fact, this type of archeology, of seeing different layers, be they historical, physical, or purely visual, is one of the primary motivations behind my photography. Thanks for pointing it out to me.
