I have been a recent admirer of and convert to paper negatives and recently felt brave enough to try one. I have to say that it took a bit of work (thanks Jersey Vic for the support) but here is my first one. I am pretty pleased although I think it could be more contrasty or a touch darker and overall a bit better. It has inspired me to do a lot more though and see where it leads me. Thanks
Guys, thanks very much indeed for the kind and quick responses. I am flattered. Thomas - This is the scan of a version printed on 8 x 10 paper (image about 7 inch square I think). I contacted the original 6 x 6 neg, contacted that positive onto another piece of photo paper to get paper neg then used that 6 x 6 neg in the enlarger. Had to have three minute exposure to get this enlarged print. It was more about trying to see what would happen and a lot of trial and error really but a lot of fun and quite surprised by the result. I was really impressed and inspired by a shot Vic did on a paper negative some time ago and really wanted to recreate the grainy mood he had achieved. I personally think it is not a finished product yet (not so sure about the top right area for a start) but I am going to keep at this process. Thanks again for the support.
I've been doing B&W since 1977 and I think that this is one of the best B&W images I've seen. Simple, elemental, beautiful. I wouldn't change a thing, it's perfect!
