i love skyline photographs like this
they fill the format perfectly
they have a railroad line leading in on one side
and foliage leading out on the other ..
and the record of a living city - cranes ...
thanks all.
shooting this was a fun experience. I set up my big 12x20 camera on a pedestrian bridge just east of Lamar Blvd along Town Lake (what Austinites call the Colorado River near downtown). This particular bridge gets LOTS of foot traffic as its on the Town Lake hike/bike trail. I had numerous people stop and look, some stopped and talked for a while, some gave very confused looks.
I don't usually set up in "busy" locations to photograph, these busy locales just usually don't contain stuff I'll normally photograph.
It was fun to get a chance to talk photography to people as they walked by. Spent about 20mins talking to a high school girl and her boyfriend who were both planning to study art/photography in college, she was so excited to see the camera and look through the groundglass. Talked for about 30mins with an older fellow who has been living in Austin for over 40yrs, he talked about how much the city skyline has changed, how when he moved to Austin, the capitol was one of the tallest buildings, and is now so dwarfed.
So true, as I can remember a mere 8 or so years ago being amazed how "big" the frost tower (pointy topped bldg in the center of the image) seemed in context with the rest of the sky line.
One thing is always certain no matter where you live ... change.
