Atop Bear Mountain

Taken on a gorgeous afternoon in early November on my way home from work. This is the view from the parking lot at the end of Perkins Memorial Drive for those who know the area. The place was overrun with a huge group of orthodox jewish kids and I had to wait for them to scramble out of the way. One of them asked me eagerly about the camera and I had fun answering him. He then told me he loved black and white which is exactly the uniform he was wearing. I pointed that out and we both had a good laugh.

I like the feeling of warm light and interplay of lines and curves. The rock surface intrigues me. It could be a whole series in itself. tim

I was up there for the first time with my Omega view right around right around that time. Just before the leaves came down. We might have passed each other Sadly, the light wasn't great for shooting to the South. Is there anyplace up there where you can get a clear shot Northward up the river from up there? I guess that you would have to do some hiking since there doesn't seem to be anywhere to legally park on the north side of the mountain.

Thanks noseoil. The rock surface is the consequence of 'mechanical' weathering from freeze-expand-crack-thaw type forces. Had I more time that day and had it been less crowded, I'd have done a lot more with what was there. But, it's easy to return to and interesting in different light and seasons.

Neal, the only other photographer I saw that day had his digicam and tripod so I'm damn sure it wasn't anyone from apug. If you continue around the parking lot and down, you come to a wonderful view to the north and east. True, parking isn't permitted, but it's not being patrolled constantly either and there'd be plenty of time to set up next to the car and make some photographs. If, however, you DO get a ticket, I never wrote the preceding and will deny having said anything of the sort I just did say...see?
