This image makes me imagine life there before it was closed down; an orderly pushing someone around in that chair, or whatever, and all the misery confined in these nicely decorated walls.
The 'decorations' were chillingly happy ... wallpaper, curtains, paint, etc. Must have been quite a busy scene. But as it stands now, it's something else of course.

A wonderful set of images. This one being my favourite. A very sad and evocative picture has been painted here. The chair, to me, signifys the loneliness one would feel being in such a place, even when surrounded by many others. When I looked up the word 'Asylum', the desription was a place of refuge, formerly for criminals, and a shelter for the insane or the destitute. It makes me wonder how close in our lifetimes that we all come close, or know someone who will come close to entering such a building. For me, a frightening thought.
One of the things that caught my eye here, Stoo, was the nature of the light coming in through windows and doors. It was clearly a lock-down situation for the inhabitants, and those windows must have been a focus for them. The doors are now 'open', but the birds have flown. Though empty, the angle of this chair facing the light seemed quite moving with just that loneliness you mention.
