From the APUG shoot in Asbury Park, NJ. This structure is supposed to come down in the very near future.
I was going to crop out that black half circle in the top of the frame, thinking it was some sort of lens obstruction, but I think it's actually an example of true solarization--when the sun is so overexposed that it is rendered as black on the print/clear on the film.
Thanks, Bruce. "Center Filter" is what most people commonly call a "center ND filter." They are denser in the center than at the edges and are used with wide lenses to even out the exposure between the center of the image circle and the edge, and they do go over the front of the lens like normal filters. I can show you how it works on Sunday.
Geeeeeez, I had images of dismantling a lens to slip filter between the elements and trying to get it back together before the sun set.
Thanks David, I'll see you Sunday.
David, This is my favorite of the three. the two people on the end really make it! Are they APUGGERS? The couple times I've been to this location The whole boardwalk experiance offered a lot of photo opps. What a great place.
Thanks folks. We drove around town and there are interesting old structures everywhere--more than anyone could shoot in a day. I took three shots of this with different people walking in and out of the scene (not APUGgers). This one works best for a web-sized image, because the people are so small and at the end of the pier they're just silhouettes, but for the print I may do a different one with two people in the middle looking at the camera.
