No flash at all on any of these. Mostly I shoot in open shade, and lots of these are really early in the morning. And there are all kinds of different things that bounce light at the track -- roofs, walls, awnings, etc. In this one, the sunlight was already pretty intense but we were under an overhang -- I think the sun was maybe just coming up, I forget, but the light was changing fast and was really fantastic right at that moment.
I've seen the print... and it's awesome... the scan seems a tad muddy on my monitor compared to the print which retains an amazing subtle tonality in the face of this portrait.
I'm really looking forward to what you are going to come up with when you return this summer, Ellen. And I'm glad you finally started sharing some pictures here!! Thank you!
Ellen... a computer screen is a poor substitute for a finely crafted gelatin silver print... I think we all know that, here. This scan is fine... I think the print is finer!
Ellen - this is a wonderful series you have shared with us. Looking forward to seeing more. Also, it was good meeting you this past weekend. And I hope to get a chance to see your work in person.
