More from my favorite bridge this weekend, standing on that bridge, it feels as though it's a part of the forest... I've been working for an image like this here for a couple of years now. I'm thinking this is my best attempt so far.
Shawn,
Great image. There is a neat bridge like this not to far from my house. Always wanted to do a real high angle shot looking down, but my old bones and a cooler head tells me not to climb up the truss. Now a 12 or 16 foot ladder might cut it.

I like this image. Very subtle in a way and well seen.
Sort of seems like the blacks have been clipped off in the scan on my monitor though. I put it in photoshop and bumped the contrast just a little and I like it better.

Lee, be carefull! The ladder sounds like a good idea. Hope to see you again this summer.
Thomas, yes - I have a certain fascination with textures - even beyond what is there but in using it to make the it appear the surface of the print has a texture of it's own... if that makes sense. Thanks again.
Gene, those trees! The bridge is a "skewed truss" type which puts the ends very close to the surrounding forest. It always feels to me that the bridge is a part of the forest.
Dennis,
thanks so much for spending the time to consider my image! can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It's funny you mention that - and you're right on. The print itself has blacks but, more importantly I think, has a sort of light, silvery feeling about it. It seemed if I made the blacks black in the scan then it lost that feeling, but without doing it the scans seems a bit more flat than the print. I found it to be a no win situation in proper representation. Then again when does a 72dpi scan match the print....
Shawn,
I just had a great idea. Came across this video on you tube and I think it might be easier than doing a ladder. Looks like this guy taped a mono pod to a painter pole and then shot it up in the air. Might be a very cool way to get up into a bridge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84uz7QNhQbw
