Approaching Rain

Re-scanned / reposted:
Flatbed scan of 8 x 10 selenium toned silver (fiber paper) print. That is a natural halo formed by the cloud layer above the land in the distance, barely enhanced from the sky burn. Water is slightly dodged on right side, bottom corners also burned in while enlarging from 6 x 7 neg. The left side water highlights are not nearly as pronounced in actual print.

This is simply beautiful. It shows that you don't need much information in the image to make it work.

Very nicely done, Victor. Quite an evocative scene.

All the best,
Daniel

I agree with Whitey, it definitely feels like rain. Great to capture the mood that well. Excellent photograph!

Thank you all for the very kind words. There is at least one other neg from that eve that I plan on printing. The big, flat rock that my tripod is on and the puddle before it is at the bottom of a beach access stairway, had this not been near dark, many people would've been passing by. On average, this flat rock edge is only 4 ft or so above the sand. The tide varies of course from washing over this rock landing to there being a sandy beach for 40 ft between the rock and ocean. This was shot while the ocean tide was just brushing up against the vertical edge of the landing, I think it's interesting that the blurry water is only a few feet below the edge past the puddle, not a steep cliff that could possibly be interpreted.
