Bike with brake cables rising from the levers, a saddlebag, the sweep of those front forks and it casual placement against an old sign means it could be from the late 50s/early 60s - the heyday of cycle touring and club rides when riding two abreast was possible on country roads. Brings back memories of my Reynolds 531 and 5 speed Benelux derailleur with a 100% mechanical odometer atached to the offside front forks.
Jogs a memory for me, too. Cycling around the coastline of Scotland together with an Australian I met in the Carlisle Youth Hostel. We had fun and saw a lot. Camera on that trip was a Minox LX that I've since lost.
Ride on!
Wonderful place - I remember staying overnight at the pub there during the foot and mouth closures. My friend and I cycled the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway over the next couple of days - it was a wonderful ride and all the more amazing as there was almost no one else on the roads at that time. The local shops and B&B owners were very pleased to see us.
Glad I've sparked a few memories. For the record, the bike is an Orbit Gold Medal. about 1984. I've still got it but it's only a singlespeed now - even more retro!
