The unusual format is due to the limit of coverage of the 18.5 mm Angenieux on the 35mm frame. That lens had been mounted in the wing of a Boeing airplane and was used to make motion pictures of airport approaches for use in flight simulators. I got it from Boeing Surplus. A moonlighting camera repairman I sometimes worked with told me that he had installed it himself.
