My first image for 8x10!!! Taken with a new (to me) Ansco C-1 8x10.
Because the shutter isn't PC synched yet, I had to shut off the modelling light, open the shutter on "B", and then pop the strobe. I felt ever so tre-moderne!
This is nice, the facial expression is very good. For me personally, I'd have liked a bit more depth of field just to bring the outer margins of the face a bit more into focus. But it's still a great portrait.
Manual flash triggering works fine with these old lenses. The strobes are so much brighter than ambient that as long as you're reasonably quick about it, ghost images are not so much of a problem as people imagine.
"I'd have liked a bit more depth"
- Being a Heliar, it would loose it's special quality if stopped down. Then it'd be as sharp and contrasty as the same old same old. That being said, I would like to have something a bit longer than 30cm, so that I wouldn't have to be less than five feet away from the sitter's face.
