Another Bedstead

Another of the primitive Bedstead Truss bridges I found in Atoka county in southeast Oklahoma. Still in use, but in very shaky condition underneath.

Very nice. I used to walk across a 2 lane version of this type every day going to school. The center tracks were missing as they once had streetcar rails which were taken up for scrap and the walkway along the side was missing boards. The center was almost all open.

In flood, the river came within a few feet of the bottom of the walkway and made quite a roar of white water. The bridge would bounce when a lot of people were walking across, and it really swayed and bounced when the river was in flood.

I forgot to add that in some places, the railing was tilted in and out at crazy angles, and wobbled if you touched it. So we all walked in the center of the walkway.

It is now long gone.

I appreciate thiese pictures. They bring back memories.
