Anjavasselva river in Øvre Dividal N.P., Troms, Norway, mid-August 1999.
The river makes a 90 degree bend here, and one kilometer further downstream it merges with Divielva. Then both continue North West towards the Atlantic.
In August 1999 I made a 7 day hike in the area. The weather was cloudy and rainy for the entire week. For this picture the dreary weather worked out well. The diffuse lighting gets out all the little detail in rocks and trees. Direct sunlight would have created many distracting small shadows.
I used the built-in meter of the Rolleiflex TLR, and got a slightly too thin negative- I think the sky messed with the reading. The subject however didn't hurt from the underexposure.
I have a 50x50 cm2 baryte print of this negative. It was on the wall of my student room for a long time. It's still my favourite picture of that trip.
Even if you press your nose close up to that print the image still looks smooth and detailed. The small image on a computer screen doesn't really do justice to the print.
(This is from a scan of the negative, the real print is much nicer.)
