Ancient Bristlecone Pine

While this specimen has been dead for centuries, the surviving Bristlecone Pines are the oldest living organisms on earth. Atop the White Mountains of eastern California, they survive at elevations of 11 to 12,000 feet. Here's a large, towering relic that I spent some time with last month. There was not a human for miles.....
