Very nice shot. I tried a something like this recently here in NJ but the engineer stuck his head out the window to tell me I would be arrested by the cops if they saw me. I promptly left. .....sigh
Above comment is true. Is this the UK? I tried to shoot at Charring Cross station in London with a Canon 35 mm and was promptly approached by two plain clothed poliemen who told me that photographing in public stations was prohibited without a permit. We haven't quite reached that stage in the USA but we're close.
Of course it is the UK, photography is no problem at all on preserved lines.
Photography in or on Public stations in the UK is quite common and you rarely need a permit. Of course with heightened threats of terrorism London's mainline stations are more heavily patrolled and quite rightly so.
I suppose it's a bit like photographing in London's Royal Parks, thats illegal without a permit, but in practice you can use a hand held camera, but as soon as you use a tripod then things change.
Ian, I can't help thinking that with the 8x10, the people on the train probably though you were part of the day's entertainment...
Cheers, Bob.
[Edit] Anyone interested in photographing on UK railways might want to peruse this formum's thread: http://www.railwayscene.co.uk/showthread.php?thread=649
Synopsys: photograph at much as you like (without flash) and tell the rent-a-cops to take a running jump under the 12:45 to Glasgow...
I arrived a minute before this train arrived & crossed the line, with my niece (her twin is mentioned elsewhere on this forum as she's started LF work), there was a train on the other side and we had to work fast.
A girl in her 20's looked on gobsmacked as we set up the 10x8 on its tripod, I didn't ask for the spotmeter, the darkcloth, the cable realease or even the darkslide they appeared - this from my niece who's only ever seen one 10x8 image being made previously. So as I panicked as the guards whistle had blown I made my 4 second exposre. . . . . . . . . . .
Whatever I think of my own image I'll never forget the look of astonishment on that girls face.
But I missed something as I made the image, I didn't spot the bird on the top of the left hand tree
