Alles Kaput

A print I made from a vintage negative.
This is an 8x10 print I made from a vintage 6x6 negative. WWII somewhere, maybe France?

That's a snag - getting this negative. Poignant, well done.

I'll stick my neck out a bit - I think this is an M8 greyhound armoured car. The turret is traversed over the rear deck, and you can see the .50 caliber machine gun on the ring on the turret top. Looks like the rear mudguard is missing, too. Since the dust covers are on the armament, I doubt it is a combat zone.

Whoever the photographer was, it is a nice, if posed, portrait for the time.

@grahamp It is an M8. There are a couple other shots but this one was the best. It appears they are near combat if not necessarily IN combat at the moment.

The USA and the figures underneath plus the stencilled black letters might tell a story. If records could be accessed then that story might be revealed. If it is France then the crops suggest late summer 1944.

What became of the soldier, I wonder.

As grahamp , i stick my neck out : Given the style of house in the background , if it's in France, i would say it was far eastern france, like Alsace or Ardennes , or even Germany. Maybe i'm out of optimism , but as pentaxuser suggests, maybe US Army has historical archives that can learn us something about M8 #6040226 ?
