The thumb really caught my eye on the home page. I like the composition and the use of differential focus, which IMHO is spot on.
I'm intreagued by the lighting. The Face of the flower is almost universally lit , as though from the front but the shadow looks to be lit from behind.
Just trying Astia in my EOS (portrait shots at college) , from the look of this it's a good choice.

This is nice! I love the placement & your selective dof. Perfect! However... I would not have called it "all alone." I think I might have called it "standing strong" since it looks like it's doing just fine there by itself! :smile:
 
Thanks for your comments- I am happy with how this turned out. It is actually as I visualized it. I had a look at the light direction, and I see what you mean. The sun was high to the left, and just * slightly* behind, giving the shadow you mention. You may notice that the upper left petals are just slightly in shadow. "Standing Strong" indeed. Not to worry though- this little guy had many friends and an occasional butterfly nearby :wink:
