Thank you for the compliment. This photo was taken my second sunrise at Acadia National Park and from the same overlook as Dawn at Egg Rock. No filter was used on this or any of the other images on this roll of film (though I did change the compositions and the exposure slightly). In fact, my jaw dropped, I had never seen a sunrise like this and thought that a filter would be overkill. The sun is actually buried somewhere in that orange area along the left third of the image. As you point out the sky looks like it is boiling and the color of the water has also gone blood red. Later at an art show, I was told that colors look like this only happen a couple of times a year so I was fortunate to record the image. Also, if you are familiar with the adage Red Skies at Night, Sailors Delight, Red Skies in Morning, Sailors Take Warning - well it did rain later on.
