Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor Sunrise

It was a foggy morning, but we had just arrieved after driving all night and some of the fog was incredible, but I wanted to cut through some of it and not all of it, I tried both a circular polarizer and a yellow filter with the hope of one having the effect I wanted, the yellow seemed to do the job better but both looks are really nice in different ways I think.

Went along with a friend to Acadia National Park with my new 4x5, and these are a few of the results thus far...

Is this print for sale?
  1. Yes
I like it, but the dark strip across the top of the image and at the lower right could perhaps be considered a bit distracting.

I agree, I meant for this to also go into a ... "help what happened here?" because, I can't figure out what the light leak is from, the dark slides all seem very tight, and I don't know what that corner slice could have been since it's a perfect triangle...and it's also on the bottom of where the image would have been on the holder not the top where the slide comes out... so strange...

Haven't gone through your other images...is it just this image? Are these present on the negative itself (I assume so from the way you worded your response in terms of a "light leak")?

I'm new to all this, for me, I kept good records, but I didn't keep track of which holders I used for which image, I had an actual paid gig shortly after that I needed to load the holders for so swapped them out. I haven't processed all the film, but of the 6 images, the 4 facing the sun had this strange light leak issue, but I've cropped most, so I'll have to go back and check the rest of them to be sure, I think some of these had to be cropped, there was a LOT of sun and all the holders are in my case so when it opens I tried to keep the direct sun off but I was often rushing while my birding digital photographer (as in he used a digi cam and was looking for birds to shoot) was rushing me, "why is it taking so long I'm done" has no concept of taking your time haha, but I did my best. Check out the other images  These are also new (to me) holders, I only had 5 before and now I have 10 new ones sent to me, but they are the same brand so I can't distinguish which are which. I guess that was foolish, but all the other stuff the guy sent was so meticulously cared for, I couldn't' imagine he would think of sending a bad holder.More learning needed...

hi stone

nice image

the "leak" could be something inside the camera that dangled down and blocked the negative
( dark means the negative has LESS light ( negative thin, positive dark )
( tape? fabric?)( something else?) .. so its not really a leak but ....
i am guessing it is from your processing. ... problems with your gizmo.
you could still probably test all your film holders
stick a sheet of photo paper in there, and taking test exposures .. and processing them
in your tank with print developer ... taco method with an elastic around the paper ... ( sans gizmo )
if the paper negatives come out "clean" its the gizmo holding your film in your reel-tank
if they come back with the same sort of dark ( well, light on the negative ) marks, you will have to inspect
the camera, lens, shade or suspect holders to see what might be going on ...

Not a light leak (which would have made the negative darker and the print lighter). In this case the negative is thinner. It is difficult to see how the holder's could have caused this. It may be something blocking the light but the two shadows may have a different cause. The top looks like a lens shade getting into the frame and the bottom looks like vignetting from the lens not being centered. Did you use a tank or tray? In a tank, you might not have had enough developer above the top edge of the film. In a tray this should have evened out after 13 minutes.

Looks like a processing issue to me, too. It's a shame, a beautiful image. So nice I'd suggest a big scan and using "other" means to make a print! And tell the birder to chill, man! =)

Stone, well done, you are starting to learn about composition.
