Abandonded grove of pines who appear to have some disease.... nicely groomed area, in a State Forest area... too bad. Great place to take pictures right off the Blue Ridge Parkway

I have a couple of thoughts about this negative. When printing it I would burn down the bottom edge to better disquise the softly focused foreground. I have never done any scanning of negatives or prints. I would hope that the two large trees in the foreground have more shadow detail than what is appearing on my monitor. In other words I would print with less contrast then what is shown by the scan to maintain as much shadow detail as possible.
What value do you believe you received by using the #22 filter? I am tempted to believe it may not have helped this photo.
