Actually, there is no filter used. The lens used was the Leica f 6.8 560 Apo Telyt. Those that know the lens know that it only takes drop in filters. At the time I had no filters for the lens. Now I only have a polarizer.
If I had used a filter the car headlights would have been red.
The photo was taken the first night of a workshop with Dewitt Jones. He told us to go out and take some sunset photos. When we projected them the next day, Dewitt said "I like it how did you do it?" He also suggested cropping out the "stutter" of the car headlights as the cars were braking around the curve- that is visible most toward the front edge of the frame. I decided not to because I thought that it added interest and a little tension to the image.
Interesting shot Rich. When I first saw it, I thought it was a picture of lava flowing, like over at the Big Island. It was a surprise to see what it really is.
BTW, I met Dewitt a couple of years ago. He lives over on Moloka'i now, but I think he is all digital these days.
