I like this, but I am unsure whether I like the background converging on the poor fellow's head! I like the tone and contrast.

I really like the dynamic feel of thi portrait specially the glowing horizon line and the placement of the subject off center. I do agrre that the walkway is a little obtrusive.
Another great image!

It's a really effective portrait, but I can't help wishing that the background were tack sharp. Without camera movements, however, I realize that this would be nearly impossible.

I made some pix of my daughter this afternoon with the 4 x 5 and had to use quite a bit of swing. Even so the exposure ended up being 8 seconds. I'm hopeful that she held really still, but I rather doubt it. But it'll be razor sharp from corner to corner.

I don't think the walkway detracts in the least. But again, I'd like to see it sharper.

Compositionally this works for me. The "rules" state that the energy should be going toward the center of the photo instead of out of the photograph ...but in this case you broke the "rule" with the subject turned toward the outer edge instead of the center...it is very effective in this particular shot. The dock doesn't bother me at all, ...in fact ... I'm glad that you included it instead of taking your subject out to the end of the dock to avoid having it appear in the shot. The only thing that bothres me about this image is that it is not sharp. I love the softness of the background, but unfortunately the subject also looks soft (out of focus) on my monitor. A beautiful composition that is unfortunately out of focus.

Well done...if the rest of your work is like this then you are on to something...I personally love camera and subject movement...I'm a real "New York School" follower. This image has soul for many reasons but one of the main reasons is that it is not tack sharp, in fact it looks like some type diffusion was used under the enlarger to bleed the blacks. I shoot alot with PanF at low shutter speeds and then expose the paper with black stocking over the enlarging lens...resulting in images similar to the feel of this one. I might be tempted to burn in the thin line of reflection behind his head, but it honestly doesnt bother me much.

I like this photograph, some of my thinking is that are the eyes sharp, but , then its a nice photograph so I can get over that .

A really great portrait with superb lighting.
