My friend Étienne in one of three portraits I took of him and his sister for their mother's birthday. She wanted some nice photos of the kids, and so I put up with the task.
I took the pictures on a Wednesday evening around 6PM, and I delivered framed prints at the same time Friday. Their mother had them on Saturday.
Needless to say this was the fastest I've ever worked. It was a horrible stress: because of their availability I could only take the two of them at that moment. First I had intended to make outdoors portrait, but it rained ropes and we had to tuck inside a café. Luckily, and with the waiter's assent, I sat them near a window and used the big flat sky as the softbox of the earth. A peeled Coke tin display supplied the background, the Jupiter 9's bokeh did the rest.
I processed the film on Wednesday, and on Thursday we sat down with the proofs. A few back and forth behind their mom's back (she was visiting them at that moment!), and we decided on the final three. I then printed for the rest of the day, and produced three selenium toned prints on Kentmere Bromide. A last dip in Sistan, and it was dry overnight in keep flat situation.
Friday morning I pulled the prints and cold mounted them on backing paper, and assembled the frames (DUST!!!).
Needless to say I'm still proud.
