1st Rodinal Usage

My daughter looking pensive. I almost cried when I saw how much grain there was on the negs, but it does have a look to it...

I finally got some rodinal to try out. Thanks to everyone who recommended I *buy* it instead of mix it.

Wonderful lighting, pose and expression. Lovely girl.
Photographically, I would expect a pronounced grain effect from 3200 in Rodinal. The tone is beautiful.

I don't know what you had in mind when you shot this, but thew result is terrific. Its well lit, composed and the grain from the 3200 looks good too (I tend to like grain).

I only recently started using Rodinal (love it, by the way), but 1+25 seems to be a little strong. My reading here indicates that most users prefer 50 and 100 dilutions. Maybe someone more knowlegable can comment on it.

With that said...its a great combination here...

I definitely had no idea about the stronger dilutions when I developed the roll. I just picked the time/dilution combination that was the shortest! Luckily it came out well.
And I used normal agitation too.

If someone could point me to a set of timings for rodinal with stand development I would really appreciate it. I haven't been able to find much in my few searches. Shouldn't the church have a pamphlet that covers these matters for those interested in converting?

I don't think I'm won over from pyrocat-hd and prescysol, but for a certain look it comes out nice.

Extraordinary photo, really. you'll come to treasure it as your daughter gets older.

I think this is a beautiful portrait- the tousled hair adds to the sense of warmth and comfort. The grain works well in this photograph. In terms of the print, you might be able to focus the viewer's gaze on your daughter's bright eyes by burning down the brightly lit arm on the left just a tad. Thanks for sharing.
All the best,
Daniel

That's beautiful, Will! What an expressive look! I think the grain actually works for you here.

This is a great portrait, I am not a fan of grain, but it fits perfectly with this image. A terrific photograph, and really well done! Now when can we see your next photo of your perfect young model?
