Let me know, please.

Photographers, fans of Photography are Invited to Weekend of Free Workshops in Vancouver

A weekend of free presentations on a variety of alternative photographic processes will be held the weekend of Sept. 12-13 at the Washington State University Vancouver campus.
Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate in all or any part of the events, which will include demonstrations on photogravures, carbon printing, optically enlarged negatives, cyanotypes, bromoils and other traditional processes, as well as print sharing and a gallery exhibit.
The weekend is being organized by the Pacific Northwest members of the Analog Photography Users Group, an international Internet community of photographers dedicated to supporting and promoting traditional film-based photographic techniques (www.apug.org). This is the second annual APUG-NW gathering; the first was held last fall in Newport.
All lectures and demonstrations will be held in the Multi-Media Center (VMCC) at WSU-Vancouver, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver, WA. No advance registration is necessary, but interested photographers are asked to contact organizer Robert Brummitt at 503-614-0161 or robert8x10@hotmail.com so space requirements can be accommodated.

Good morning;

This is to reconfirm that, (1.) the message reply linkage system really does work, and, (2.) yes, I will be driving to Vancouver to the WSU-Vancouver campus for this event.

Enjoy;

Is there a campground nearby where I could set up a tent or just throw a bag on the ground? I am thinking along the lines of a US Forest Service camp within 10-15 miles or so...

Hey Vaughn.
You are more then welcome to stay at my home. I have a comfy couch that has been used by many a photographer.

That's a very fine offer, Robert. I'll take you up on that. Is it all right if I bring my three boys -- I'll make sure they stay out of your attic! (Just kidding! I'll be by myself.)

If something comes up and your couch is otherwise occupied or unavailable, please let me know -- I am pretty flexible and have on many occasions slept in my van.

Thanks!

Just joined this group...to say that I'm planning on attending, at least for Saturday. I have 2 other engagements that day, so I'm trying to figure out who gets blown off so that I can go do something fun instead.

Vaughn...if you're not familiar with the area, Vancouver is fairly suburban, though there's not huge amounts N. of WSUV. There is a state park, Paradise Point, with camping that's only a 7- or 8-mile interstate drive from the campus. I've never camped there myself, so I can't comment on anything other than its existence.

Thanks Greg. Until a couple years ago I knew someone in Vancouver (Eastern end of town) with whom we have stayed at on our travels between Eureka and Spokane. And I have been on top of Beacon Rock a few times -- a wonderful trail and a grand view!

What sort of flows in the creeks will coming off the south side of the Gorge in September? I am going to try to make some time after the Gathering...hopefully a full day...to photograph over there (water or no water!) I will see about the State Park. Perhaps I will plan to stay there the last night of the Gathering...or perhaps camp to the east up past Stevenson.

I haven't been out in the Gorge in a while, certainly with a camera. Last time was probably when I was out playing around with my pinhole conversion.

All the major falls flow year-round. It depends on how dry it is between now and then, to some extent, e.g. Multnomah can get wispy in the dry season, but Wahkeena is spring-fed, so it's more consistent. The Eagle Creek trail is pretty nice year-round...

A million cool spots out there, so I imagine you won't have trouble finding something to shoot.

Thanks again, Greg! I have posted a scanned carbon print to the photos above at the top of the NW Regional Photographer's Group page. It is a falls a way up Multnomah Creek past the larger falls near the Visitor Center. It has always been one of favorite early carbon prints. It was at a time when I had just got a handle on the process, and everything came together -- process, negative, image. I feel that the way the carbon process can handle the extremes of contrast allowed me make a print in which the light is falling as an echo of the falls.

I would love to get back there with the 8x10 and photograph along the creek again. It would be good exercise! But there are a lot of other great places. I suppose I might be able to pick the brains of the locals at the Gathering!

Good morning, Robert;

It is 1930 Friday evening, and I finally have the clothes dryer working again. Now it is relatively safe for me to consider leaving home for a while. Finding the needed parts to accomplish this task turned into a trial taking almost all day long. There were a couple of moments when I seriously considered fabricating a bypass for that part of the circuit to just get the thing going again until it could be properly repaired, but I did persist.

I will try to be off for Vancouver early tomorrow morning.

Enjoy;
