Hi guys!

First post here. Someone on Flickr mentioned this place as being the best place for OM related questions.

I recently decided to get into (analog) photography, so I have acquired an Olympus OM-10 with a couple of lenses.
However, I want to try and take some wide angle shots, and the widest I can go right now is 28mm with my Tokina 28-70mm f2.8-4.3 lens.
I think I'd like to get a 14mm lens. I tried browsing around on eBay, but i find it really confusing with all the different mounts, specs, adapters and such, since I don't know much about photo gear at this point.

I'm a poor poor student, so I can't afford anything over $300. What would you recommend?

I,think the widest was an 18mm. They are rare and very expensive. The 28 mm/3.5 are very good and also affordable.

I don't mind using a non-OM lens and an adaptor, I'm just not sure what to get.

I have a Vivitar 19mm 3.8 in K mount. It isn't a world beater, but for what I paid, about $100 new some years ago, it is fine. It can - maybe - be found in the Olly mount. Just try to keep your feet out of the frame!

Zuiko has wide angle lens like 6mm, 16mm, 21mm, 28mm.
Among them, 28mm F2.8 is the most reasonable price I think.

The 8mm and 16mm are fish-eye. Like my 16mm but probably are pretty expensive. 24mm or 28mm are probably more reasonable and the 24mm is pretty wide on 35mm. 24mm was the first lens I bought for my OM's

Why do you want a 14mm? That is really extreme distortion material there. The 24 and 28 is a really sweet wide angle length for most situations. The 20 or 21 is also very easy on the eye, when competently used. Gotta get up close to the subject. But I ahve seen even pro work with nikkor 15mm and it just looks queer. Better to stay with 24 or else just go fisheye!

There are various convertors you can get that will screw on to the front of the lens. Oly made these for the IS Series "ZLR's" they produced in the 90's. These have a .8X factor that would turn a 28mm into a 22mm and a 24mm into a 19mm. You can also get similar "wide angle adapters" from various aftermarket companies.

Give the expense of really wide lenses and their limited usefulness, these convertors are a practical way to go.

I'd mentioned earlier in this thread the Vivitar 19mm f3.8 I have in Pentax K mount. It was made for the OM mount also: http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/item/vivitar-19mm-f-3-8-757 Since the lens is discontinued you'll have to watch out for it, perhaps on ebay. Good luck! It's really a pretty good lens, and the difference between it and a 28mm is dramatic. You know you need it.....
