The Olympus OM cult

OM 4 Spot metering

#1
Hi everyone,

My apologies if this has been discussed before. My question is..how do I use the OM4 for Zone System photography? I'm not talking about average reading..we can use the multi-spot function. I understand that the Hi-light and Shadow buttons are used to render true whites and blacks....but what if the area I am metering doesn't have true whites or blacks in it? What if it has a range of values short of absolute white or black? How would i use my OM4 to use the Zone System. Can someone please explain this with an example, if possible? Thank you so much!
