The Olympus OM cult

Zuiko MC lenses

#1
Dear friends
when started the production of the Zuiko MC lenses?
Is possible, from the serial number, to know the production's year?
I'm sorry for my English.
Thank You.

Giovanni,

I will try to give a short answer to your question. The OM system was introduced in 1972. A few of the original lenses were Multi-coated and most had single coating. For example, the 35mm f 2.0 was multicoated and the 50 mm f 1.4 was single coated. Other lenses were added to the system at later times and quit a few originally had multicoating. Some of these were the 24mm f 2.0 and the 21mm f 2.0. By the early 1980's, Olympus was using Multi coating on almost all lenses.

It is difficult to tell if a lens is multi-coated based only by serial numbers. I believe that Olympus had a policy of making improvements continuously and these "improvements" were not talked about very much.

I hope that this helps, perhaps others will also answer.
