The Olympus OM cult

OM4 Film advance problems

#1
On a recent trip to Croatia I had an OM 4 with me, loaded with 36 exp. film. I shot away happily and realised that something was wrong when I went way past 36 exposures. It kept on "advancing" and the shutter fired every time.

I had no option but to open the camera, only to find that it only advanced about 5 frames with the balance of the film still in the cassette.

I put in a new roll of film with the same result. When I lightly hold my finger on the take-up spool and cock the advance lever, it sort of "slips" and it is not turning. So it would appear that once film starts to build up on the take-up spool, something causes it to "slip".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Anton.
