Welcome All!

I am seeing a lot of discussion about whether digital photography is of the same nature as photo-sensitive chemical photography, the loos of the art of photography, the problems with AI and post processing digitally (or in the darkroom), etc.

Rather than try and answer these big questions, I am proposing to create a set of standards and tags that can be used by people creating images to help define what they did (in a general way) and to communicate to others what they did. I use food labeling as an example (does this contain GMOs? How much sugar?).

The use of the standards would be voluntary, but if it catches on, it could become expected.

I am not sure where this will lead, but let's start the journey and find out. If you know of existing standards, their review could be useful.

Hi Mark,

I updated your OP in the main forums to cover all workflows. Happy to see where this goes. I think our gallery can be set up with tagging. A url could be made photrio.com/standards or such maybe. I could see the designation being like:

Photrio: Digital Negative [Adobe Std: DNG file]

maybe shortened after selection to something like: P-DN-DNG eventually it might feel like a shorthand that people get used to. Not sure if this standards idea would be adopted by many.. hard to know.

Since this is awakening, what do you think of something like #[APUG: platinum print; Digital Representation]. This could be transferable to "social media" where teh "#" often denotes a tag.

Hi Sean:

I just tried editing a post in the "Awakening" thread, but the edit failed. It did not generate the editor, just a blank page (still in Photrio). Can you look at that?
