Kodak Monitor tearing film.

#1
So I've recently joined this group because I got a modified Kodak Monitor about a month or so ago. (the test roll will be dropped off for development Monday, and they'll be ready in a week). But...
Earlier this week the camera fell out of my pocket while climbing a slope, and at first I though the winding mechanism jammed, but fixed it. But, in trying to figure out the double exposure preventer (which I don't think I can use because the camera is missing the part on top) I eventually tore up my test film- which was at least a ruined kodacolor x. Now I don't think my legitimate test roll got ripped- is this going to be a future issue, was I doing something wrong, and if so how can I prevent this?
