Darker than SHD400? I've not used the 400 version, but compared to Kentmere 100, it's lighter. SHD100 is on a thinner, acetate base than Kentmere.

I just ordered 12 rolls of 120 Lucky 100 so we'll see just how lucky I am with it. I'll probably just use/test it with Pyrocat-HDC for now.

I've been testing it with both Pyrocat-HDC and PC-512.🙂

One thing I would love to know from your testing is whether the image quality of this film is identical to that of Fomapan 100 as some have concluded.

I've not used Fomapan 100 in ages, but two things leap to mind. First of all, SHD 100 has nowhere near the propensity for building up contrast the way the Foma films seem to. Also, the SHD 100 in 120 has a lighter base than I recall the Foma having.

To me - qualitively and subjectively without rigorous testing - SHD 100 behaves a lot like the old Agfapan APX 100 except that the Lucky film takes Pyro staining much more readily than the Agfa did. (The Agfa being my favorite medium speed film of all time.)

I am still on the fence about SHD 100 quality. Apart from the short 120 roll I mentioned upthread, so far, I find this film to be generally less prone to issues that the many, many frames I've shot on Fomapan 200. But I've only shot about 100 frames of 35mm and 50-60 on 120.

Obviously, Ilford and Kodak are still the gold standard for film quality, but they are also multiples of the SHD cost. Moreover, I really, really like the look of this stuff so I have high hopes it will continue to be available as a quality product.

I can't wait to see the test results Andy. When mine gets here I'm going to try Pyrocat-HDC and 510-Pyro first to establish an EI I like and then run it in Adox XT-3R, which should give me a good idea about how this film does in a staining developer vs non-staining developer. As to whether it's Foma 100 rebranded? I think a presoak should tell something since the Foma 100 discarded presoak water has a heavy tint to it.

It's unlikely to be Fomapan. Lucky is made in China and Foma in the Czech Republic.

Thanks, very useful.

IIRC Agfa APX 100 was OK for reversal processing and @Ivo Stunga has had good results though I don't know if what he used was the old film or the newer one.

Don't want to speculate about Fomapan 100 and SHD100, but it was suspected that Shanghai GP3 is the same as Orwo UN54.

I can tell you that SHD stains very well in Pyrocat-HDC 1+1+100.

It sure does and it REALLY stains in PMK. Drop by and I'll show you. We have donuts here too.

I beg your pardon, sir. There are, in fact, donuts all over the place.

Yes, for many year I had to drive across Michigan, go through the Windsor Tunnel and into Ontario just to find a Tim Horten's, but now I have one about five miles from my house in Sparta, MI. With the price of petrol today I thank God it's only five miles away. Hey, maybe if you're "all over the place" I might get lucky and run into you at my Timmy's someday.

We should def try to get together. When I am not All Over The Place, I find my way back to the badlands between the People's Republic Of IL and The Land Of Cheese. You're probably 4-5ish hours from me. The midpoint is probably Holland or South Haven. Or I could take SWMBO to Grand Haven for a spa day...

Actually, my summer and soon to be permanent place, is Lake Station, MI. east of Clare. Life is much slower up there, which is good for a slower old fart. But if you ever are up around Grand Haven, Grand Rapids or Muskegon let me know. Donuts on me!

Be careful, I may show up with a truck full of cameras, film, and tripods and lead you astray.

First roll SHD400 fresh from my mailbox. I ran this through a Medalist I converted to 120 (thanks Dan) and definitely some issues on all 6 frames with these odd lines on 4/6 frames. I don't think these lines are camera related, handling issues, sewing thread, or cat hair on the film. The frames have about 5-8 lines like this all parallel with same arch pattern at the beginning/end. Crop is 200%. The film otherwise is very nice. Last is full image without noticeable issues. Shadows of the wood blocks in bottom row were spot metered for Zone 3. Exposed at ASA 320 f8 or f11, 1/200 hand held and developed in well seasoned D23 for 10 minutes normal agitation.
