Well, my trip is coming up fast (2 weeks), and since I'm getting ready to develop my 120 (iso 100) film at home when I get back, I'm wondering why not develop the 35mm tri-x here as well.
The little voices in my head scream X-RAY everytime I think about this, and although I've done a search on the threads here, I thought I'd ask just to be sure. I've read posts stating that Delta 3200 does not fog (much) on carry-on luggage x-ray, so I figure I'll be safe with tri-x at 1250 in Diafine, right? It will probably be cheaper to buy a few Hewes reels than to pay for processing 20 rolls (at about 3 bucks each), not to mention I'd be able to process it with my 120 without worries.
By the way, I've deciced to preserve my sanity and only request hand-inspection ONCE in every x-ray. I'm going DFW-miami-São Paulo-Salvador, and just as many stops on the way back. So it's up to 6 x-ray sessions, and at least 4 (departure & customs), and since I'm taking 110 rolls of film, it's probably getting x-rayed.
Thanks in advance

Supposedly 800 and lower ISO is safe going through the machines at airports, but it is cumlative. If it is a higher ISO, and as many times as you are going to have it xray'd, I would seriously think about getting a lower ISO film and rate it higher. This is just my opinion, From someone who had their film fog after 4 times through. SFO and McCarraen in Las Vegas.

Tri-X will be ok. I recently came back from a trip to Australia & New Zealand with a load of Neopan 400 and they are fine. Try to avoid uneccessary X-rays as much as possible though, as they say it does have a cumulative effect on film - officials in Australia were fine about not X-raying my clear zip bag of film when I arrived and went through quarantine, but when it came to going through security when going through to departures, I just took the X-ray to avoid all the hassle of a hand search.

Also, leave the film on the plane if you stop over for refueling, as in places like Singapore they X-ray baggage before you are allowed back onto the same plane. In total, my film had 6 X-rays on the trip and I avoided another 5, and the films appear to be unaffected.

I've travelled extensively for the last 15 years carying TriX and the whole range of Ilford films and have never had a problem even with Delta 3200. Typically, I can be travelling for up to six weeks putting film through xrays as many as 10 to 15 times and I've never had a film fog on me and that includes several times through Las Vegas on the same trip for I tend to use it as a hub point on some of my travels so Aggies friend must have been unlucky. In the mid 90's I photographed in Belfast, Northern Ireland traveling there at least once each month for over two years and carried batches of film several times that received up to 8 xrays each trip, again no problem. The film I used then were TriX, Neopan 400 and Ilford HP5.

Well, seeing as last time my film got x-rayed 2-3 times without problems (rated 400, though), and Les hasn't had problems, I'll stick to the plan of asking ONCE for hand inspections. Last time it worked for Brazilian customs, not for DFW airport.

Anyway, we shall see. Thanks for the responses

DFW airport is still under the federal gov regulations. Which means if you ask for hand inspection, they are bound by fed law to do so. You can find a copy of the law on line somewhere and just print it out. If they give you a hard time, just give them the print out and ask for their supervisor. You will be surprised how well that works.
