Wide angle lens for 8x10

Hi all I have a nikkor 210 wich barely covers the camera, and sometimes I get cut off corners, even though I check thorugh the corners....what would you all suggest for a new lens...?

165mm Goerz W.A. Dagor is a nice small lens that covers. So does the Zeiss 180mm dagor. Of course, if you sell your car, you can have a nice 150 or 210 Symmar XL.

A 9-1/2" Dagor is a nice lens, in my experience with black and white. I am not sure what the coverage is, but I have not had any probem on 8x10. Mine is coated, and mounted in a reliable working Ilex shutter, which I had serviced. These lenses can be fitted to a modern Copal 1 shutter.

The 10" Wide-Field Ektar has tons of coverage, but it's in a large Ilex #5 shutter and isn't quite as contrasty as a coated Dagor. On the other hand, I use the shutter for other barrel lenses with a front mounting adapter, so I can carry three lenses and one shutter, making up for the weight and bulk of the big shutter.

My 8-1/4" Gold Dot Dagor mounted in an Ilex #3 covers with room for modest movements, so a 9-1/2" should be no problem, but I bet the coverage isn't quite as wide as the WF Ektar.

I have an old 168mm Ser. III Dagor that covers when stopped down, but I've heard that later versions might not. That said, it's usually a very affordable lens in a Rapax non-sync shutter.

My widest lens is a 120mm/f:14 Berthiot Perigraphe. These are usually found in barrel with wheel stops, and cover 8x10" with room for slight movements. I had mine mounted in an Ilex #3--coverage is slightly less, but I'll tolerate that for the convenience of a shutter. Very affordable, and it's a surprisingly sharp little lens!

A schneider 210mm Angulon. Small, sharp and covers 11X14" with movements. Costs an arm and a leg, but I wouldn't give up mine for anything!

Also in the costs an arm and leg departement, as well as big and heavy, but I'd never go anywhere with my 8x10 without my 165mm Super Angulon. It has tremendous coverage and is remarkably flare resistent for a single coated lens with many elements. More recent versions may be multi-coated, but it isn't essential. Other more recent designs like the new 150 are more compact, but even more expensive.

Hey Carl, I feel your pain.

I have the 121mm SA and it's just a big piece of glass. But interestingly enough, the "regular" 165mm Angulon (one of which I HAD) is about the size of a half dollar and cover 8X10" beautifully.

My widest 8x10 lens is a 159mm f12.5 Wollensak Extreme WA. A really fine lens that I got on Ebay for a steal (less than $200). Mine is apparently a late model because it is coated. These lenses (of various vintages) come up on Ebay quite often. It covers 8x10 easily.

A friend no longer uses 8x10 but while he was in the undergraduate program at Rhode Island School of Design, he did. Sorta street shooting with a Deardorff. One of the lenses he used the most was 6 and half inch Dagor. It covered 8x10. I am on the look out for one of those.
