I have a couple of lenses with no retaining rings. And while I do love duct tape, I don't trust it when it comes to my lenses. Looking on the Net I can't find much except of course SKGrimes who will make anything. But if I can save some bucks by picking up an old one all the better.

Anyone know where I should look?

Robert, If I were in your position, I would check with the folks at Midwest Photo to begin with, possibly B&H as well. Beyond the used equipment dealers, I guess that I would hope that someone is holding down the fort at Steve Grimes establishment, in light of Steves heart attack. I have had Steve make up a ring for me for an old Rapax shutter and I was very pleased. Hope this helps.

Anyone who sells LF equipment can help you with modern ones (Copal, Prontor, Compur, etc.); www.mpex.com has new Ilex 3 & 5 flanges and probably other assorted ones for older shutters lying around. www.skgrimes.com can make anything and might just have it on hand. They're still open for business.

I bought a 50mm retaining ring for a Rodenstock 150mm from Midwest Photo for about 15 dollars about 2 months ago. So,...that is where I would look first.

Well, no luck. Midwest doesn't like answering their E-mail and they only list the #4 and #5 lenses. Lens and Repro is a bust too. And well Steve is gone now and if the business stays around it will probably be a while before it is back up at full speed.

Worse yet, my source for lensboards is INSANELY confusing. I have been told that the Ilex #3 will fit a 51mm, 52mm, and 54mm hole! But the origonal literature that came with this beast says the hole needs to be 55mm! Now, I was going to have S.K. Grimes handle all of this, but it looks like I am on my own. I was hoping that with the bountiful amount of Ilex #3s out there (I mean Calumet must have sold THOUSANDS of the 215mm Caltars with that #3 in it), finding one should be easy.

Now I am thinking that I should just sell the damn thing and buy something on EBay that comes in a 4x4 board! Of course this is assuming that the CC-401 took 4x4 boards that would match!

Robert,
You might try Frank Marshman at Camera Wiz in Harrisonburg VA. A Google search listed a phone number as 800-471-8133. I met him one weekend at a Michael A. Smith workshop several years ago. He's a hell of a nice guy. If he can't help you he might be able to point you in the right direction.
