washing the print after an hour and then bleaching prior to toning leaves spots on the print. At first I thought it was from bubbles, but I looked very carefully and there were no bubbles. after I left the print in the bleach for about 1 minute, these small circular spots appeared. this is not the first time. they look almost like water spots.

I did not use hypo clear, because I thought an hour of washing would be enough.

the paper is Fotmatone Chamois 542-II developed in Ethol LPD 1:4. Kodak Indicator Stop, Ilford Rapid Fixer 1:4 two bath, then wash for an hour. The print looked fine until I bleached it.

i had that happen before but i cant remember which paper
i seem to remember

thinking

it was likely from old age

yeah, i remember
very old azo

dark spots and a lot of them that i could not see on the other prints prior to toning

what the real reason is I don't know

mine was from scratch not a kit but still a redeveloper

I do like the slightest bit of bleaching and sepia

I have this happen frequently and have concluded that it has something to do with the emulsion. Some prints exhibit the spots, while the print before or after does not. For whatever reason, I see this far more often with the copper sulfate bleach. Agitation (or lack of) does not seem to matter.

The spots disappear with redevelopment or sepia toner. If you are bleaching to reduce the density of the print, then that is a problem.
