My darned 11x14 camera doesn't have the sliding base-plate which would allow you to center the camera over the tripod regardless of lens used. I assume the 2d cameras had this. I wonder what chance I would ever have of finding one??

I have a sliding base, but don't know what it fits. Its too large for my Agfa/Ansco 8x10. If you let me know the size needed, I will check the one I have.

Phototone,
Have measured the sliding base I have. it is 8.25 in wide, inside ears. 4in long and 5/8 in thick. The eas are 3/8 in to the top, 5/16 to the underside and project in 3/16 in. Leaving a 7 13/16 in. opening. Since I have had it for at least 15 Years and have no idea what I paid for it, you are welcome to it, if it will fit. Pm me your address and i will mail it off.
Ps has no maker marks.

Phototone,
I have an 11x14 2D and mine only has two grooves in the base and rail. one for the front standard to travel in and the second for the rear standard. I had assumed that the 11x14s, unlike the 8x10s, did not have a sliding tripod base plate. I wonder if there were differences in the 11x14s over the time of production. It sure would be a nice thing to have.

MY 2D also just has two grooves, but this might not preclude the use of a sliding base, as the base would be attached from the front, and the rear standard (which uses the lower groove) would never go that far forward, when the sliding base was in use. It is a curious thing to ponder.

hi phototone --

i was missing the base plate on one of my cameras,
and went to a machine shop. they cut one out of a chunk of scrap
alum. as i waited. i think it cost me less than 30$, plus i got a little
"performance art" out of it too.

if you get into a real jam and none of the kind people here have one that fits, the custom one is worth it ...

You are right, if you could get one to fit and use the lower grooves it would be a fine thing. Let us know if it works. If it does I'll start looking for a base plate, too. Of course, I need to find an extension rail to even have the need for one. If anyone knows of one that's available, I'd be interested.

I had the issue of needing a rear extension rail also, however, as good luck would have it, I acquired a unknown make extension rail that was close, and I had a local craft woodworker modify it to fit. Works like a champ. I did this years ago.
