SpeedGrapher

Though apparently set in the future, our hero Saiga shoots primarily with a Nikon F2 (w/105 f/2.5), sometimes a rangefinder & even an instamatic. Film (Kodak, no less) plays a prominent story role.

I've wached eight episodes so far, waiting for the next set.

* Capa is also the name of a Japanese photo mag, so it's well-known — while Sawada was a J-PJ killed in Vietnam

All the information at a diagonal is too much hard work. The whole website layout is too clever for its own good. Where do we click to watch?

It's an F2 in the series, shown clearly in the titles.

You don't click the website to watch. You click Blockbuster.com to watch, just like I did.

Btw, its "Anime" not "cartoon", also it goes more than just being a photographer, the guy seems to transform into some sort of creature. He just happened to be a photographer starting out.

He's a photographer all the way through the series. At the risk of dropping a spoiler, he gets his power from the film.

And, yeah, I know what anime is, having visited Ghibli and even had a short stints working with both Katsuhiro Otomo and Stan Lee (not together, alas). But I find no value in trying to draw such divisions. "Cartoon" works fine for me.

That goes for manga and bandes desinee too

Being that "anime" is a borrowed word I don't see that it matters whether someone call it "anime" or "cartoon".

Well... Actually he doesn't. I won't go into where he gets his power from though since I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

Well I watched a few episodes myself, and so far each of these has some kind of hot scene, so I suppose the creators have learned their lesson from Blow-up: how could you make anything about photo without including sex? Or death? Or Kodachrome, for that matter, in episode 2, I think.

I'm curious to see where the plot line goes, so I'll be watching more.

Can't get the episodes to run in latest version of Firefox and Flash, but it looks pretty good. It has that old-timey Wired (that so passé 90s magazine...) feeling of "where the is the information I want". But I'll stick around, poke some of the anime-coloured levers and see where it gets me...

I love how the kodachrome he shoots gets developed by the bad guys into black and white prints

There is a torrent of the whole season, that weights at 4GBs.

It has all the elements of a good anime:
futurist society but with doses of classical japan, the perverted and the naive, sluts and schoolgirls, lethal supernatural powers and guns, weird stuff and complex plot, sex and violence and lots of blood.
I love it!

Best line, episode 14: just as an electricity-monster is about to take control of him, the photographer reminds him that "pros don't use electrical cameras"....

Here's a follow-on that I could have also posted in the "songs with photography in them" thread from a few weeks back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKWN40ugVZA

BTW, Speedgrapher was released in Japan with Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" as the theme song -- but it was too expensive to license for international release.

I watched all the episodes. Have you? The ending is good, but as the series progresses, the photographer premise shifts to the background.
